Board of Trustees Message Regarding Reopening as of 6-1-20

Dear Members and Friends of UUCCWC,

Perhaps you have read recently that Washington County has been authorized by the state to begin Phase 1 reopening as of June 1. Phase 1 means that selected businesses, like bars, restaurants, gyms and hair salons can reopen with the use of strict safety guidelines. These include separating customers by 6 feet at all times, limiting numbers of customers, and employees wearing face coverings at all times. Public gatherings are limited to 25 people, and must employ appropriate social distancing. There is more information here on the state of Oregon website.

Phase 1 is not the time for us to consider holding in-person services yet. However, the Board of Trustees is looking to the future. The Board has convened a team to discuss the future of UUCCWC as a part-electronic, part in-person church. We’ve gained so much from having electronic services, including the opportunity to see old friends who have moved away. Our electronic presence may make us more accessible to people with limited transportation or mobility and to visitors who are “just checking us out.”  There is support for continuing our electronic services in some format after the pandemic is behind us.

In the meantime, the Board will keep you updated on our plans as they develop. The team looking into this will meet in mid-June. You will know more within a few weeks.

Oregon has done a good job of protecting citizens and containing this disease to the extent possible. Rates are decreasing. Oregon Covid-19 data can be found here for those who want more information.

Stay safe, everyone. We have come together in amazing ways during this crisis, and we will continue doing so for as long as it takes.

With kind concern,

The UUCCWC Board of Trustees
